Lock In Your Fall SAT/ACT Plan Before the Deadlines Sneak Up

If the SAT or ACT is part of your student’s fall plan, now is the time to stop saying, “We’ll figure it out,” and actually put a date on the calendar.

The first fall SAT will be administered on August 22, and the regular registration deadline is August 7. That is one week away. Late registration is available through August 11, but it comes with an additional fee and possibly fewer testing-center options.

The ACT calendar is moving right behind it. The first ACT of the 2026–2027 testing year is September 19, with a regular registration deadline of August 14.

In other words, fall testing season is not somewhere off in the distance. It is already knocking at the door.

Before choosing a test date, families should answer three questions:

  • Is the SAT or ACT the better fit for my student?

  • What score does my student currently have?

  • How much preparation time is realistically needed to reach the goal?

That last question matters because meaningful preparation takes time.

I will always be honest with families about what test preparation can and cannot do. Research reviewed by the Brookings Institution suggests that test preparation can improve scores, but the gains are generally more modest than some programs advertise. The research also reminds us that test-taking strategies can only go so far when a student still has gaps in algebra, geometry, data analysis, or problem-solving.

That is exactly why Scholar Metrix does not rely on a handful of tricks and a last-minute cram session. Tricks may help a student move through a test more efficiently, but they cannot replace skills that were never fully mastered.

Our goal is deeper than simply teaching students how to “beat the test.” We help them understand the math, strengthen the areas where they are struggling, and learn how to apply what they know under timed conditions.

That kind of growth requires a real plan.

The Fall 2026 Testing Calendar

Test Test Date Regular Registration Deadline
SAT August 22 August 7
ACT September 19 August 14
SAT September 12 August 28
SAT October 3 September 18
ACT October 17 September 11
SAT November 7 October 23
SAT December 5 November 20
ACT December 12 November 6

Testing dates and registration deadlines are subject to change. Families should confirm current information directly with the College Board or ACT.

The Scholar Metrix SAT Math Accelerator™ and ACT Math Accelerator™ begin with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment. We use those results to determine which test better matches the student’s strengths, identify the skills that need attention, and build a preparation timeline that makes sense.

No cookie-cutter countdown. No unrealistic promises. Just focused instruction, measurable growth, and a plan built around the student in front of us.

If fall testing is on your family’s radar, make the decision now. Choose the test, secure the date, and give your student enough runway to prepare without turning the week before the exam into a full-blown family emergency. We have enough of those during senior year already.
